Why Paditude?

Why Paditude?

  • Paditude features an ultra-plush, light weight, top quality velour fleece providing complete breathability, durability and water resistance. The velour finish gives our fleece extra soft, densely packed fibers and an ultra-smooth texture that most fleece lacks, assuring extreme pill resistance.
  • Paditude your way! Want a pad shipped today? Pick one out of our ready-made collection! Many fabrics, lengths and absorbencies available to ship now! Want to customize your own collection? Pick your fabric, length, absorbency and add PUL if you would like! We will make your pads especially for you and ship them within about a week!
  • Paditude has a thin, non-bulky core made of organic bamboo fleece
  • Paditude is one, easy to use pad. Many other cloth pads have two separate parts: a holder and an insert to fuss with that can shift or bunch. Paditude remains secure.
  • Paditude pads are not made with surged stitching that would be quicker to make, but not as durable. Why Cloth Pads?

It might be hard to imagine at first, but women absolutely love the change to cloth pads! They are comfortable and beautiful! Most wonder why they didn’t consider the switch earlier!

Benefits Health Information

from Dr. Joseph Mercola, Women Beware: Most Feminine Hygiene Products Contain Toxic Ingredients, May 22, 2013.

  • Your skin is the largest organ in your body, and also the thinnest. Less than 1/10th of an inch separates your body from potential toxins. Worse yet, your skin is highly permeable — especially the skin around your vaginal area, not to mention inside the vagina itself.
  • Manufacturers of tampons and sanitary pads are not required to disclose the ingredients used because feminine hygiene products are considered “medical devices.”
  • From research by Andrea Donsky, founder of Naturally Savvy and co-author of Label Lessons: Your Guide to a Healthy Shopping Cart, each conventional sanitary pad contains the equivalent of about four plastic bags! With everything we now know about the hazardous nature of plastic chemicals, this alone is cause for concern.
  • Plasticizing chemicals like BPA and BPS disrupt embryonic development and are linked to heart disease and cancer.
  • Phthalates — which give paper tampon applicators that smooth feel and finish — are known to dysregulate gene expression
  • DEHP may lead to multiple organ damage.
  • Besides crude oil plastics, conventional sanitary pads can also contain a myriad of other potentially hazardous ingredients, such as odor neutralizers and fragrances.
  • Synthetics and plastic also restrict the free flow of air and can trap heat and dampness, potentially promoting the growth of yeast and bacteria in your vaginal area.
  • To give tampons and pads that pristine, “clean” white look, the fibers used must be bleached. Chlorine is commonly used for this, which can create toxic dioxin and other disinfection-by-products (DBPs) such as trihalomethane. Studies show that dioxin collects in your fatty tissues, and according to a draft report by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), dioxin a serious public health threat that has no "safe" level of exposure! Published reports show that even low or trace levels of dioxins may be linked to: 1)Abnormal tissue growth in the abdomen and reproductive organs 2) Abnormal cell growth throughout the body 3) Immune system suppression 4) Hormonal and endocrine system disruption
  • Naturally Savvy notes that 10 years ago, House Representative Carolyn Maloney introduced legislation that would have required research into the potential health risks of any ingredient used in feminine hygiene products, including endometriosis, cervical, ovary and breast cancers. Unfortunately, the legislation did not pass, and it does not appear that any such research has been done.

Financial

Why buy disposable pads every month, for a reasonable initial investment Paditude pads will last 5-8+ years! Saving you lots of hard-earned money! Comfort & Beauty Far more comfortable than any disposable pad and beautiful too! No sticky adhesives to try to inconspicuously deal with! Most women have believed that the rashes, soreness, irritation, itchiness and smelliness they have experienced using conventional pads was just a normal part of menstruation! They are not! What a relief it is to see those problems gone after switching to cloth pads!  My (Amy) cycle actually has shortened by 2-3 days since switching to cloth pads and that is another common benefit that many women report. Environmental It is estimated that approximately 20 billion pads, tampons and applicators are being sent to landfills annually in North America alone! These products can require hundreds of years to biodegrade. Paditude will last at least 5 years with recommended care 

Getting Started with Paditude

How do I wear Paditude? Paditude pads are worn like conventional pads with wings, but instead of adhesive strips, Paditude has snaps that fasten onto your underwear. Decorative stitching side is kept towards you. How often do I change my Paditude? This depends on how heavy your cycle is. On the heaviest day, most women only need to change pads every couple of hours. With normal – heavy cycles, Paditude prevents leaks with our super absorbent, organic bamboo fleece core and our backing of high-quality, plush, water-resistant velour fleece. Very quickly, you will be confident with your Paditude protection.

Help! I experience FLOOD DAY!

For extreme flooding, usually caused by menopause, perimenopause or fibroids, there are several strategies to choose from. We are talking about the type of flooding that leaks through a conventional, overnight, heaviest absorbency pad, in an hour or less! (UGH!) During times like this, no menstrual product, conventional or cloth, is designed to hold the amount of fluid necessary all at once.

  • Wear two heavy pads, 1 underneath snapped towards the back of your underwear and one snapped on top towards the front. That way, if/when one leaks through, it starts to absorb into the other.
  • Customize your Paditude and add a layer of PUL, which creates a waterproof barrier to provide additional time between pad changes.
  • Pair your pad with a menstrual cup or sea sponge.

L,M or H absorbencies?

Light Menstrual cup/tampon back-up Light Flow, including at beginning/end of cycle Everyday protection Moderate Moderate Flow For coughing, sneezing, laughing ooopsies! Heavy Heavy Flow Postpartum

What size to buy?

A good way to start is to measure the length of the disposables you use. Many women start around 10”.

How many Paditude do I need for a cycle?

The amount of Paditude you may need varies based upon cycle length and heaviness. Many women will use 15-25 pads per cycle, but purchasing this amount to start is not absolutely necessary. Ballpark number of pads needed and breakdown: 4-6 Light, 4-8 Moderate, 4-8 Heavy It is possible to purchase about ½ the total you will need for a cycle and launder them mid-cycle. That way you can build up your stash over time 

What do I do when I’m out and about?

Paditude fold and snap into cute carrying pouches by folding the top and bottom and snapping the wings together. So after use, just fold, snap and tuck away until you are ready to rinse and/or launder.

How long do Paditude pads last?

Cloth pads can last a very long time, 5-7 years would not be an unreasonable lifespan with following laundering instructions.

Getting over the EWWW!!!?

Cloth pads are amazingly easy to clean! After intensive, sustained use, they can easily remain stain free. I never would have imagined that could be true! See the laundering section for easy care directions. Cloth pads also allow moisture to evaporate, therefore helping to avoid the odors we had previously experience with conventional pads. Conventional pads made of synthetic materials help to create a sweaty, humid environment that can feed bacteria. Women are happily surprised at the difference between cloth pads and conventional pads with odor and ease of cleaning 

Does Paditude have a waterproof backing?

Our ready-made pads do not include a waterproof backing because those materials tend to trap moisture and therefore promotes bacterial growth and odor, similar to what many experience with conventional pads. Happily it should be found nearly unnecessary because Paditude is so absorbent! Like conventional pads, Paditude will leak if they are left on too long. Would you like to add a waterproof backing? Paditude offers PUL as a custom option so we will make it just as you would like 

Do I choose cotton or flannel?

After utilizing pads, we have noticed that the fabric of cotton pads usually retains its appearance and has held up with washing a good bit more than flannel pads, therefore, Paditude has a much wider selection of cotton pads. Some women prefer flannel, so we do offer that option as well. Just a personal choice based upon which you prefer. Both materials are soft, absorbent and comfortable.

Paditude for postpartum?

Certainly  We recommend a longer length (like at least 12-14”) and Heavy absorbency for postpartum bleeding. Expect to need to change pads more frequently than usual during your monthly cycle.

Paditude for incontinence?

Absolutely. Many women experience stress incontinence and minor leakage especially with coughing, sneezing, laughing, etc. after pregnancy, childbirth or menopause and Paditude can help wonderfully. 

Paditude for teens?

We have a heart to help our young women avoid any exposure to conventional menstrual products, so we have created a special size especially for young girls – Paditude Petals!

Where is Paditude made?

Home Crafted Essentials contracts with wonderful WAHM’s (Work-at-home-moms) in the Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Virginia area. Paditude is a small brand of the Home Crafted Essentials company and one of our main objectives is to help supplement families income at home.

  • Laundering
  • We launder fabrics prior to construction in a dye free, organic detergent to minimize shrinkage.

Suggested Paditude care: Please launder prior to initial use. To protect pads: Do not wash or dry on hot. Line drying ensures least wear and tear, but ok to dry on low. Do NOT use bleach, fabric softeners or dryer sheets- they will decrease absorbency and also deteriorate pads. Don’t scrub pads, it is unnecessary and will shorten life-span. Wool dryer balls may be used in place of dryer sheets. Do not dry in sun because of natural bleaching effects. If using cloth pads for incontinence, simply throw them in the wash with your laundry. Wash pads unsnapped.

    Laundering – option 1 (Paditude’s recommended method)

    • Throughout cycle, fold and snap pads and store them dry place, exposed to air.
    • When cycle ends, rinse pads with cold water until water runs clean
    • Apply hydrogen peroxide on any with remaining spots, work it in, let pads sit for about an hour then rinse them again with cold water until water runs clear.
    • Throw them in the washer and soak overnight in cold water with an oxygen stain remover and whatever detergent you choose
    • Run the wash cycle in the morning and pads are sparkling clean! 
    • Dry on low heat.

    Laundering – option 2

Many women just wash their pads like all other laundry using a cold cycle. We recommend soaking them first to loosen them up before machine washing or using the pre-wash setting. Dry on low heat. Some women are not worried about stains and staining does not mean the pads are not clean… but with a little extra love, Paditude can remain sparkling clean! There are many other methods. Check out YouTube.com for many more suggestions 
